MINDPLAY SUPPORTS DAYTON (OHIO) STUDENTS INCREASING READING SCORES DESPITE THE “COVID SLUMP”

The University of Delaware released a technical report on July 25, 2024, detailing the effects of MindPlay Reading on reading scores in over 15,000 K-6 students in the Dayton (Ohio) Public Schools.

The study compared the longitudinal growth of reading scores for six cohorts of students from the 2016-17 and 2022-23 school years, confirming a positive curve over time on students’ reading score growth despite the “COVID slump” affecting so many schools. Additionally, students who utilized MindPlay scored significantly higher than the national average, with an increase in progress for students who utilized MindPlay for 80-150 minutes per week.

This suggests that implementation of MindPlay may have significantly reduced the COVID slump in Dayton and, instead, allowed many Dayton students to make gains that moved them closer to national average levels of reading achievement.
