Dyslexia Connection Chooses MindPlay as First Review
Dyslexia Connection, a newsletter published by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA,) kicks off a series of technology-based reading software reviews with an in-depth look at MindPlay, the program most familiar to the publication’s editor and her community. The review, published in April 2019, notes MindPlay’s K-adult universal screening, its modules on phonics, decoding, vocabulary, and spelling. It also spotlights the program’s benchmarking data, progress monitoring, teaching to mastery, use of human voices, activity scoring and detailed reports to parents and teachers.
The review also highlights the affordability and practicality of the program, saying, “MindPlay supports and matches the Structured Literacy approach to reading instruction. It lays a consistent basis so that comorbid needs can be addressed in tutoring, like dysgraphia and dyscalculia. It may decrease the time to close the gap by 30–50% thus saving parents time and money and allowing tutors to increase their overall caseload. Teachers who do not enjoy teaching phonics can rely on MindPlay to do so.”
