LESSON 6: Words can limit the number of correct
pictures
OBJECTIVE: The learner will use adjectives to limit the
number of possible pictures that can be made.
The tan electric fan fell.
Read this sentence to the learner and have him draw a picture or tell you
the picture he formed of this sentence. Point out that there are fewer
pictures that can be formed because the describing words (adjectives)
"tan" and "electric" narrow the options and make the picture clearer.
Writers use adjectives to help the reader form a clear picture of what
the writer intended.
If the learner can accurately show or tell you characteristics such as
the fan's color and the fact that there is a plug attached,
go to Lesson 7.
If the learner requires more help, make up sentences using adjectives to
limit the picture, or use these examples:

The old, gray coat fell.
